SKAGERRAK MEMORIAL

Place of remembrance for victims of the sea
Where is the seafarers' graveyard? It doesn't exist. Those who remained at sea after a shipwreck cannot be buried on land.

No roses bloom on a seaman's grave
Thousands of brave sailors lie in the depths of the seas. Brave in every battle to the last man, they always kept their honor. And the guns roar, fire from every barrel and the waves roar.
So bear their names in memory with awe and respect.
They gave their young life for their country, drowned miserably and perished. Young and proud on their mighty ships, that's how these sailors died.

REMEMBRANCE THE VICTIMS OF THE SEA BATTLE

Here on the coast near Thyborøn in Denmark there has been an international memorial for the greatest sea battle in world history since 2016, 100 years after the battle.
The memorial consists of 26 granite stones with a height of up to 3.5 m - one for each of the ships sunk in the Battle of the Skagerrak.
The granite stones that symbolize the stems of the sunken ships just before they disappeared into the depths were placed in the formation in which they lie at the bottom of the North Sea.
Each stone is inscribed with the name and other relevant data of the ship in question.
The memorial does not differentiate between English and German seafarers.

THE MEMORIAL FOR THE DEAD OF THE SKAGERRAK BATTLE

The greatest naval battle in history took place on May 31, 1916 during the First World War. Over 240 warships took part in this naval battle between British and German naval units. In the course of just one day, 25 ships were victims of a massive exchange of fire. Almost 9,000 fallen British and German seafarers met their fate in the North Sea.  More information about this sea battle can be found on Wikipedia:  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Jutland
During my visit to the Danish North Sea coast, the weather was typical for this region. Thick clouds drew quickly across the sky, the sun only peeked through the cloud cover for a short time. Well, dramatic heaven for this special place. At home, in my warm apartment, I tried to give each picture a special mood while editing the pictures. I also swapped the sky on a couple of photographs. I hope you agree.

BLACK AND WHITE PHOTOGRAPHS OF THE MEMORIAL

Here I have converted some of the photographs into black and white. I think the atmosphere of this place comes out better. It's a special, stirring place. So many young people died in that sea battle.
ENLARGEMENTS OF MY PICTURES FROM THE MEMORIAL
Here I worked with my original pictures from the skagerrak memorial. I re-selected the image section and thus refocused the main subject. At the same time I tried a different photo processing to create a different mood in the pictures.
