MORE MUSHROOMS

Mushrooms play an important role in the forest ecosystem. There is hardly a tree or shrub that they do not feed. A symbiotic living community from which both partners benefit: The plants supply the mushrooms with sugar, which they obtain through photosynthesis - and they get back the water they need. But not only that. The mushrooms provide the plants with everything their roots cannot extract from the ground. This also includes minerals and trace elements such as iron. But mushrooms not only provide the trees with essential substances. They are also the garbage disposal in the forest. Above all, they decompose dead matter. Whether fallen branches, uprooted trees, leaves lying on the ground - everything is recycled by the mushrooms. And it has been for millions of years.
Sometimes mushrooms can also be harmful. One example is the Hallimasch. He parasites on the trees under which he lives.
