COASTLINE
Wherever seawater meets the mainland, we speak of a coast. Because the coast is continuously exposed to the force of the sea, it is constantly changing. How much the water gnaws on the mainland depends on the strength of the rock, the height of the waves, the ocean currents and the tides.
Gentle ocean waves that wash sand and gravel onto the plains, pile up sandbanks and create a beach. The rubble is further crushed by the water, and the beach is repeatedly reshaped. When waves and wind move the sand sideways, a hook of sand grows into the sea. If this hook reaches the opposite end of a bay, the hook becomes a spit. A lake remains enclosed by the spit: the lagoon.
The surf doesn't just work on the fine sand. It can even remove hard rock if it thunders with force against the rock of a cliff. If the water carries broken rocks with it, it continues to sand the rock at the height of the waves: cavities are formed. If the rock above collapses, there are receding bays and capes that extend into the sea like arms of land. Sometimes only individual towers made of rock remain in the sea, which are further worked on by the water and also collapse at some point. The power of the sea is particularly strong during storm surges. You can change the shape and course of the coast extremely.
THE MAGIC OF THE BOUNDARY BETWEEN SEA AND LAND
Everything has sprung from the water !! Everything is sustained by water! Ocean, grant us your eternal rule. If you didn't send in clouds Don’t donate rich brooks, Not turning rivers back and forth, The rivers did not complete What would mountains, plains and world be? It's you who gets the freshest life.
Johann Wolfgang von Goethe (1749-1832)
PHOTO COLLECTIONS OF MY TRIPS TO THE SEA
I love to go to the sea. The sound of the waves, the screaming of the seagulls. The vastness and loneliness touch my soul. Whether a small pocket camera or the large photo equipment, I always have something with me. The beach and the coast are full of surprises.
